Darren's Ride For The Kids

Story

It’s time for me to get on my bike again and get ready to join the 1200kms for Kids charity bike ride in support of the Royal Children’s Hospital here in Brisbane.  I’m no way in shape to tackle 1200k’s but I’ll be joining the ride at Warwick and riding 300k’s to Brisbane (that’s the plan anyway!)

I’m riding with a friend and colleague, Rowan Johnstone and we set off Monday October 20 from Warwick and make our way to Brisbane the next day.

Along with some much needed training to prepare for the big event, I also need to start my own fundraising drive – I’m hoping this is where you and your organisation can get behind me and this important cause.

My target is $1300 and your donation will help support The Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank.  The Tumour Bank collects samples from as many children as possible that are diagnosed with cancer and come to the Royal Children’s Hospital. These samples are then used to conduct research into childhood cancer so that every child has the best fighting chance at getting better.

Dr Andy Moore, paediatric team leader of the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank and also a 1200kms for Kids rider this year said:

“A donation to the 1200kms for Kids event really does make a difference, and your fundraising ultimately helps save lives.. Unfortunately, cancer research is expensive, so we need your help. Whatever you can do – whether it’s large or small – it all helps to find better ways of treating childhood cancer and improve outcomes for more kids.

It costs more than $100,000 per year to run the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank so every dollar I raise will go towards this amazing facility.

Please support my cycling efforts and make a donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation by clicking on the Donate button.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated.

Now back to training! Thanks everyone...
